Are you LGBTI+, over 50 years of age, and based in Scotland? Or know someone who is? Then this message is for you! Read on!
My name is Tiu, and I am a photographer based in Edinburgh. In association with LGBT History Month 2017, I am creating a new fine art portraiture project focusing on the experiences of LGBTI+ folk who are over 50 years of age and based anywhere in Scotland. Could that be you?
I am currently seeking participants willing to be photographed. Together we will plan and create a fine art portrait of you, either alone or with a partner. I will travel to you, wherever you may be - including the Highlands and Islands! - to compose a meaningful portrait in your home environment or out in the beautiful Scottish nature. I will be taking these portraits until the end of May 2017 and will happily work to your schedules to organise the shoot.
In addition to the portraits, I will also be asking participants to submit a handwritten piece of personal text in the form of a letter. This could be a letter to yourself, or a letter you wish you had written to someone but never did; it could be a letter to nobody in particular. It could detail a story, an event that shaped you, a fond memory, a painful memory – perhaps it could be a letter to the LGBT community of today about what life was like for you in the decades past.
All of the letters will be exhibited alongside the portraits as unedited originals.
Please don't hesitate to get in touch with me via email a firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to volunteer or contribute. I'll be happy to answer any questions you might have! You can also check out my website www.tiumakkonen.com for examples of previous photography projects on LGBTI+ life in Scotland.
This project has been made possible with the generous support of LGBT History Month, LGBT Youth Scotland and Creative Scotland.
