February is… LGBT History Month.

LGBT History Month takes place in Scotland every February. It is an opportunity to celebrate lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer lives and culture, and to recognise the significant contribution LGBT people have made to our country and the world at large.

Every year we work in partnership with groups and organisations all over Scotland to programme a range of arts, cultural and educational events.

The Communications Volunteer will help develop and implement a communications/social media strategy for LGBT History Month 2016.

Please note: this role will help support the work of LGBT History Month Scotland, and may include some engagement with the wider LGBT community. However, this is not a direct youth work role.


  • To support the Development Officer to develop and implement a social media strategy for LGBT History Month 2016
  • To develop innovative, creative ways of promoting arts, cultural and educational events
  • To attend key events, representing LGBT History Month Scotland and updating social media
  • To help write and disseminate press releases promoting key LGBT History Month Scotland activity and events
  • To help upload content to the LGBT History Month blog and events pages, and keep the website live and engaging
  • To assist with social media monitoring, particularly of key events/days such as LGBT History Month launch party and Purple Friday
  • To contribute to the LGBT History Month 2016 Evaluation Report



  • A passion for arts and cultural events
  • Creative thinking, problem solving
  • Some experience or understanding of key social media platforms, including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram
  • Some experience in blogging


  • Some experience in using content management systems to update websites (training will be provided)

This role would suit a Communications/Events student. LGBT History Month Scotland would be happy to support a student placement.


Where: Glasgow office, with travel outwith Glasgow for key events

When: 4 hours per week, preferably during the day (to be decided between volunteer/Development Officer), December 2015 – March 2016.

Please note: this is a short term volunteering opportunity.


  • Induction training, and then on-going training options relevant to your role
